The AIS Odometer Inspection
Certfication
Process
Prior to any vehicle being shipped it will be inspected by
an AIS inspector,
based at a Japanese terminal.
Once the inspection has taken place, AIS
guarantees the
quality of inspection by placing a sticker on the windscreen
and
issuing a corresponding certificate to the shipper
or importer.
The AIS odometer inspection process takes into account
the overall condition of the vehicle, the service/maintenance
records and the odometer reading.
The vehicle is then put through the Japanese National Auction
Association (NAK) odometer reading database to verify that the
actual mileage of the vehicle measures up to the other information
gathered about the vehicle.
If it is considered that the odometer has been tampered
with, the odometer is removed and undergoes a further inspection
to establish its accuracy and to look for evidence of tampering.
This secondary process takes a few hours and comes with a three
page inspection report with photographic records and comments
by the inspector.
